When did the UNH ginkgo tree lose its leaves this year? Professor of natural resources Serita Frey is back with an update on UNH’s beloved James Hall ginkgo tree, which dropped its leaves Sunday, November 16 this year. That’s the latest date ever, and four days later than the previous record in 2023. In northern latitudes, leaf drop is triggered by a hard frost, which is happening later and later each year. Fun fact: Ginkgo trees are living fossils, with lineage that goes back 200 million years.
