Scattered showers and a few strong thunderstorms are possible this afternoon, with the highest rain chances inland and along the Treasure Coast. Showers and storms will drift generally from south to north.
Showers and thunderstorms continue through tonight before dry and less humid conditions return for the weekend. Some storms tonight could contain damaging winds and brief heavy rainfall.
Rip current risk remains elevated, with purple flags flying at some beaches due to the presence of jellyfish. The Crystal Coast and Southern Outer Banks are in a moderate risk of rip currents and a low risk of rip currents for the Northern Outer Banks.
Sunday sees the start of summer’s meteor season in the Northern Hemisphere, with the with start of two overlapping showers— the Delta Aquarids and the Alpha Capricornids.
Scattered showers and isolated storms rolled in over South Florida on Thursday morning. Added moisture coming in from the east will result in higher coverage of showers and storms as the day progresses. In the afternoon, the rain activity will form inland and move toward the Gulf.
