South Dakota Game, Fish & Parks Conservation officers are investigating the shooting of a golden eagle near Gettysburg, South Dakota.

A golden eagle was reportedly shot on Jan. 7 in Potter County, prompting an investigation from South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (SDGFP) conservation officers and special agents from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Game, Fish and Parks reports a Golden Eagle was shot in Potter County last week. It had shotgun pellets in one of its wings and was taken to a rehab facility. The eagle will remain in captivity for the rest of its life because of the injuries.
