The first check-swing challenge in the history of professional baseball took place at the Arizona Fall League on Tuesday. New York Mets prospect Drew Gilbert, playing for the AFL’s Scottsdale Scorpions,

Drew Gilbert became the first player to challenge a check swing call in the Arizona Fall League, and the Mets top prospect drew a walk after winning his appeal.

There's no indication of if and/or when the automated check-swing challenge will make its way to the regular season and up to the majors. ( MLB continues to experiment with the automated ball-strike system in the minor leagues, with commissioner Rob Manfred suggesting it could be introduced down the road in MLB using a similar challenge system .)
