Makar has been named a finalist for the Norris Trophy for the fifth time in his career. The other defensemen in NHL history who have been a finalist five times in their first six seasons are Bobby Orr, Brad Park and Dennis Potvin.

With the Stanley Cup Playoffs moving along, the NHL has started the process of announcing the finalists for each of its major awards for the 2024-25 season.  On Tuesday, the league announced the finalists for the Norris Trophy,

Quinn Hughes, Cale Makar and Zach Werenski were named finalists for the Norris Trophy on Tuesday. The winner of the award, given annually to the defenseman voted the best at his position by the Professional Hockey Writers Association, will be announced at a later date.
