Actor Annu Kapoor has accused the makers of Chak De India of deliberately changing the protagonist from a Hindu to a Muslim.

Annu Kapoor in his recent interview claimed that the makers of Chak De! India changed the name of the main character 'to portray Muslims as heroes and to make fun of Pandits'.

He said, "The main character in Chak De! India is based on a famous coach, Negi Saab. But in India, they want to show a Muslim as a good character and make fun of a Pandit (Hindu priest). This is something old, where they use the idea of Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb (Hindu-Muslim unity) to put a label on it."

Veteran actor Annu Kapoor criticized the portrayal of Shah Rukh Khan's character in Chak De! India, stating it altered the real-life inspiration to feature a Muslim coach. Kapoor believes this decision was an attempt to promote Hindu-Muslim unity in a way that sidelined Hindu characters.
