Leading up to the start of the legal tampering period in the NFL, it was clear the battle for quarterback Justin Fields was going to be between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Jets, both of whom offered an opportunity to start in 2025 and potentially beyond.

Reporters such as Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic have mentioned that "Fields prioritized the Jets" in part because Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin benched the 26-year-old in favor of Russell Wilson this past fall "against the wishes of many in that Steelers locker room" when the club was 4-2.

The New York Jets took a flier on quarterback Justin Fields this offseason, inking him to a two-year, $40 million contract. It will be Fields' third NFL home after three years in Chicago and one in Pittsburgh.
