The Dallas Cowboys have let former head coach Mike McCarthy’s contract expire, opening up a vacancy at the position. Due to the high-profile nature of the organization, rumors have been swirling about potential candidates since Dallas moved on from McCarthy.

Dallas has requested to interview Seattle assistant head coach Leslie Frazier for its head coaching vacancy, a person with knowledge of the decision told The Dallas Morning News. Frazier would be the second known name in the Cowboys’ search, joining former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh.

Schottenheimer is the first known internal candidate to interview for the head coaching job. The 51-year-old Schottenheimer, son of the late NFL coach Marty Schottenheimer, joined the Dallas staff as a consultant in 2022 and held the offensive coordinator title the past two seasons while McCarthy was the play-caller.

After five seasons with Mike McCarthy at the helm, the Dallas Cowboys are on the hunt for a new head coach. The next head coach will be tasked with succeeding where so many of his predecessors have failed.
