Canada's Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly has told the BBC she believes Canada can win the trade war which was sparked by a series of tariffs ordered by US President Donald Trump. "We are the biggest customer of the US," Joly told the BBC's World Service Weekend programme. "We buy more from the Americans than China, Japan, the UK and France combined."

In the midst of a trade war between the United States and Canada, the Canadian foreign minister has been the most direct, notably ahead of welcoming her American counterpart, Marco Rubio, on March 12.

Canada is strongly condemning China after the country executed four Canadians earlier this year, Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly said Wednesday. She said Canada would continue to engage with China and ask for leniency 'for other Canadians that are facing a similar situation.
