Miami claims to have the oldest Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade in the country. It started in 1977, nearly a decade before the U.S. established the federal holiday.

Martin Luther King Jr. is a part of Miami history. The civil rights activist born in Atlanta was a regular at The Hampton House, a small hotel for Blacks, Latinos, and Jews during segregation.

Following the parade, the celebration will continue with a festival at Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park, featuring live music and food.
