Prabowo Subianto has been sworn in as Indonesia's eighth president. This completes his journey from an ex-general accused of rights abuses during the dark days of Indonesia’s military dictatorship to the presidential palace.

The inauguration ceremony marked a triumphant apotheosis for the former general, who was elected in a landslide in February.

The first time Prabowo Subianto lost a presidential bid, he claimed there had been "massive" fraud. The second time, the former special forces commander initially said he did not accept the election results,
