Indian airlines have received more than 100 bomb threat hoaxes in a span of few days, forcing planes to delay, reroute and make emergency landings – throwing the country’s aviation industry into costly disarray right before one of the biggest festivals of the year.

The Indian government is working on a new law to punish those spreading the menace of hoax bomb threat calls, which disrupt the flight schedules of airlines and cause massive inconvenience to thousands of passengers.

MUMBAI: A threat call was made to the Delhi Airport control room, warning about a woman passenger who was allegedly a "human bomb" and carrying Rs 80 lakhs to meet her boyfriend. The Sahar police in Mumbai registered the case on Friday and discovered that the caller was the nephew of a 60-year-old woman from Andheri (West) whose name was mentioned
