The U.S. Space Force and Roscosmos are tracking potential threatening debris from a Boeing-built satellite that exploded in orbit. Intelsat said an anomaly triggered the explosion and the cause is under investigation.

The Intelsat-33e communications satellite is no longer operational after an outage Oct. 19; affected customers are being moved to other platforms, the company added in a statement. Meanwhile, U.S. Space Force was tracking around 20 pieces shortly after the incident,

"We are coordinating with the satellite manufacturer, Boeing, and government agencies to analyse data and observations," Intelsat said. Boeing did not comment directly on the incident, referring BBC News to Intelsat's statements.

CEO Kelly Ortberg’s first two months as Boeing’s top brass have been far from smooth. He’s been saddled with an ongoing strike of 33,000 machinists that is set to continue should workers not agree to Boeing’s offered 35% pay hike over four years.

Boeing reported huge quarterly losses Wednesday, as new CEO Kelly Ortberg conceded “it will take time to return Boeing to its former legacy.”
