They played connected, fast hockey in a matchup of last place teams to snap a two-game losing streak. Before the game, the team inducted Brent Sutter into its Hall of Fame.

The Flyers had an excellent response to a scary hit on Ryan Poehling as they took over to beat the Islanders, 5-3, Thursday night at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York. Poehling was forced out of the game in the first period after taking a check to the area of his shoulder and head.

The San Jose Sharks had another disappointing performance as the New York Islanders won 4-1 on Saturday night.

At least for now, the Islanders stopped the bleeding. Doing so on the same night the organization honored Brent Sutter — inducting him into the team’s Hall of Fame and onto the Ring of Honor at UBS Arena — with one of the season’s better crowds in attendance,
