A U.S. Border Patrol agent, who was shot and killed Monday during a traffic stop in Vermont, has been identified as David C. Maland, federal and state officials announced Tuesday.

(KNSI) – A United States Border Patrol agent killed in Vermont Monday while on duty has roots in Minnesota.

Governor Phil Scott identified David Maland as the fallen officer, extending his “heartfelt condolences to Agent Maland’s family, friends, and colleagues."

Newly released details regarding the fatal shooting of U.S. Border Patrol Agent David “Chris” Maland on Interstate 91 confirm the suspect who died in the incident was not in the country illegally, but rather a German national lawfully present in the United States on a current visa.
