Punishing winds have combined with low temperatures to produce dangerously cold conditions across the Northeast. Forecasters say, though, that relief is on the horizon.
Arctic air will chill much of the United States, but New York’s streak of consecutive freezing days ended on Monday.
After a slightly cooler but still above-average midweek with sunshine, temperatures will warm steadily into the weekend with highs in the 40s and the potential to approach 50 degrees early next week.
The cold front that passed yesterday brought back colder air to the Tri-State. This means that highs today will only be in the upper 30s and low 40s under a partly cloudy sky.
