Five years ago today, northern Utah dealt with chaos as powerful winds uprooted thousands of trees, overturned semi-trucks, and left more than 170,000 homes and businesses without power.

While the islands are in the five-day forecast cone, meteorologists said that Kiko will be a completely different storm by the time it approaches Hawaii early next week.

Not only are there no named storms, there aren’t even disturbances worth monitoring — which is unprecedented over the last couple of decades.
