At first, Nebraska playing in a bowl in late December in New York City sounded like a form of punishment rather than a reward for a successful season. It's true, playing in a balmy Florida, Arizona or California might be more appealing.

The Huskers took the practice field at Fordham University on a cold and sunny Thursday afternoon flanked by social-media cameras and a host of staffers.

Nebraska finished with a 6-6 record. The Cornhuskers started the season strong, going 5-1 in their first six games, but struggled in the latter half, losing five of their last six games.This bowl game marks Nebraska’s first bowl appearance since 2016, adding extra motivation for the team.
