Months before the deadly New Orleans vehicle attack on New Year’s Day, the city modeled scenarios for how an attacker could enter Bourbon Street at various intersections in a crew-cab Ford F-150 similar to the one used to kill 14 people and injure dozens more.

At least 15 people were killed and dozens more were injured in what the FBI is investigating as a terrorist attack in New Orleans on New Year’s Day.

"There has been a mass casualty incident on Canal and Bourbon Street. Get yourself away from the area," NOLA Ready said.

Most of the attack victims were killed on portions of the street that would have been protected by at least one police car. But NOPD has now acknowledged that there were no police cruisers parked as barriers there for New Year's celebrations,

New Orleans' planned Bourbon Street barriers, with a 10 mph crash rating, are criticized for being insufficient to stop high-speed attacks, especially after a deadly New Year's Day vehicle attack killed 14.

The rating of the new system “is exponentially, far less than what they currently have,” an owner of a bollard manufacturing company said. Here's more.
