Among the tragic events linked to Hurricane Milton in Florida was a series of gunshots fired at a home after the power went out in Rockledge, investigators say. It happened on Saturday, Oct. 12, and a dog was hit and killed in the home, Brevard County Sheriff’s Wayne Ivey said in a video shared Oct. 23 on Facebook.

The 126 tornado warnings issued Oct. 9 ahead of Hurricane Milton's Florida landfall more than doubled any previous calendar day back to at least 1986.

A Florida man furious that he had no power days after Hurricane Milton hit the state allegedly fired his gun recklessly inside his house and shot his dog – which later died, according to Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey.

Hurricane Milton appears to have hit jobs in Florida harder than Hurricane Helene, which slammed the Gulf Coast Sept. 26. That week saw 9,377 initial unemployment claims, at the time the highest number of filings this year. That was up 3,842 claims over the previous week.

Nearly two weeks after Hurricane Milton tore through Central Florida, some areas remain submerged, with residents in parts of Orange City still relying on boats to get around.

A dog is dead, and its owner is behind bars, accused of killing it because he was mad that he had no electricity after Hurricane Milton.

"He's all mad because FPL hadn't got to him to turn his power back on so he starts shooting his gun inside the house," the sheriff said.
