Miles Brundage, OpenAI’s senior adviser for the readiness of AGI (aka human-level artificial intelligence), delivered a stark warning as he announced his departure on Wednesday: no one is prepared for artificial general intelligence, including OpenAI itself.

Previously a subteam under AGI Readiness headed by Pamela Mishkin, OpenAI's Economic Research team will now answer Ronnie Chatterji, the new chief economist. The remaining AGI Readiness team members would be moved to other departments of the company, Brundage added.

OpenAI is disbanding the team responsible for advising the startup on how ready the world is for higher levels of artificial intelligence.

Brundage's exit comes on the heels of several high-profile departures from OpenAI's safety teams, including Jan Leike and co-founder Ilya Sutskever. Leike left after raising concerns that "safety culture and processes have taken a backseat to shiny products.
