New wildfires erupt in California as flames continue to rage across Los Angeles
Three new wildfires have started in southern California since Monday as dry conditions and destructive winds continued to create a high fire risk in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. At least 24 people have been killed in the disaster and dozens more are missing.

Update: Containment progress – Palisades Fire in Los Angeles County at 18%
Palisades Fire initially started 10:30 a.m. Jan. 7 in Los Angeles County. It has burned 23,713 acres after being active for a week. A crew of 5,104 firefighters has been working on site and they managed to contain 18% of the fire by Tuesday evening. The blaze's cause remains under investigation.
