Jonquel Jones was named the 2024 WNBA Finals MVP after the New York Liberty's dramatic Game 5 victory over the Minnesota Lynx Sunday night. With the win, the Liberty clinched the first title in franchise history and ended a 28-season hunt for a championship.

A roar from the Barclays Center crowd drowned out the final buzzer of the New York Liberty’s 67-62 win over the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday night, a collective release of “finally” from fans as one of the league’s original franchises won its first WNBA championship in a thrilling overtime Game 5.

New York Liberty forward Jonquel Jones delivered a powerful message after winning the 2024 WNBA Finals MVP award. Jones' statement “delayed but never denied” summed up her emotional journey in professional basketball. During her MVP speech, Jones fought back tears as she accepted the award from WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert.

Stewart, Jones, and Courtney Vandersloot joined the Liberty together last year to try to finally push the WNBA’s most star-crossed team over the top. Along with Ionescu and Laney-Hamilton, they formed one of the most formidable starting fives in league history.

The New York Liberty have clinched their first WNBA championship in franchise history! Led by Jonquel Jones, Sabrina Ionescu and Breanna Stewart, the Liberty defeated the Minnesota Lynx 67-62 in overtime during Game 5 of the championships — which was played on the Liberty's home turf, the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
