President Donald Trump claimed Friday he “most likely” will not fire Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, despite persistently goading him to leave his post. Trump has publicly criticized the Fed chair for months for keeping interest rates steady despite the president’s insistence that Powell lower them.

Trump called the Fed chair "TOO ANGRY, TOO STUPID, & TOO POLITICAL" after the central bank left interest rates unchanged again.

“If they don’t dissent, then the stock and bond markets could rally significantly on expectations that the FOMC participants are leaning toward cutting [in September], thus placating the two potential dissenters,” said veteran strategist Ed Yardeni of Yardeni Research.
