RIVERHEAD, N.Y. -- Suspected Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann is scheduled to return to court Wednesday on Long Island. The 61-year-old is charged with the murders of seven women dating back to the 1990s .

The New York architect facing murder charges in a string of deaths known as the Gilgo Beach killings on Long Island is challenging the DNA evidence against him and is seeking separate trials in the sprawling case.

The office argues nuclear DNA science is "generally accepted" within the scientific community and "based upon technology that has been implemented for decades."
