President Donald Trump’s offer to most federal employees to resign now and be paid through September stunned the workers who received it — angering some, confusing many and raising questions about whether the offer is even legal.

Through an email blast, federal workers were given the opportunity to resign from their jobs before Feb. 6 and retain full pay and benefits through Sept. 30.

If you’re a federal worker and wondering whether to send that resignation email, here’s my advice: Don’t. From a personal finance standpoint, the Trump administration’s proffer to civil service employees is disruptive and disrespectful.

Those who opted to leave would be paid through the end of September. The move appeared to stretch the limits of President Trump’s authority.
