Jurors in the Karen Read trial are continuing their deliberations Monday morning, the first full day they are able to discuss the case. All jurors, including the six selected as alternates, entered the courtroom a little before 9 a.
Prosecutors allege Read, 45, drunkenly and intentionally reversed her SUV toward O’Keefe as she dropped him off at an afterparty in Canton early on Jan. 29, 2022. “She was drunk,” special prosecutor Hank Brennan alleged. “She hit him, and she left him to die.”
The jury in the Karen Read trial heard drastically different closing arguments Friday before deliberations began.
Prosecutor Hank Brennan opened his closing argument by saying Read callously decided to leave O’Keefe dying in the snow, fully aware that he was gravely injured. He described that decision as “a choice” to let O’Keefe die. He also said Read was well beyond the legal alcohol limit when she drove at the time.
