Israeli strikes in Beirut’s southern suburbs destroyed buildings, Lebanese state media said. The U.N. chief expressed concern for people in northern Gaza.

The development comes as Israel continues intense air and ground campaigns against Hezbollah in Lebanon and against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, and mulls its response to Iran's latest ballistic missile attack.

When Israeli military officials said that Hezbollah had stashed $500 million in gold and cash under a Beirut medical center, there was a scramble to evacuate the facility, and now a debate is raging over the Israeli accusation.

An Israel Defense Forces spokesperson said "at least $500 million in cash and gold" was found in a hidden bunker.

U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said on Wednesday that he had not seen evidence that there was a Hezbollah bunker filled with cash built under a hospital in Beirut, adding that Washington would continue to work with Israel to get better insights.
